How to choose your Facebook business page name

If you have a Facebook business page, it's important that you carefully consider the name (URL/address) of your page because once you have chosen it, you cannot change it.

If you have a Facebook business page, it’s important that you carefully consider the name (URL/address) of your page because once you have chosen it, you cannot change it.

Every business page on Facebook is entitled to register a unique page URL. As an example, GO Creative’s Facebook URL is www.facebook.com/GOCreativeWeb

When choosing yours, consider these factors:

Capitalisation

Do you want MyBusiness, mybusiness or Mybusiness? They will all work just the same, but sometimes a capital here and there can help make the name easier to read.

Punctuation

Punctuation cannot be used in Facebook business page names, other than dots/periods.

Dots can sometimes be useful to help separate words, and if a someone types your address but forgets the dot, it will still work.

Abbreviations

If your business name is quite long, you may need to condense it. For example, change ‘YourPet Super Pet Products’ to ‘YourPetProducts’.

Length

You should keep your Facebook page name (excluding ‘www.facebook.com/’) to under 10-12 characters to ensure it’s memorable.

Suffixes

If your business has multiple locations, you may need to create names such as MyBusiness.Brisbane or MyBusinessAU. Even if you don’t have multiple locations now, it might be worth thinking about in the event that you add new offices/stores in future.

Names are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Unfortunately this means that if your preferred name is unavailable, you will have to choose something else.

What to do if someone is infringing your copyright

If you find someone using your business name illegally — posing as your business, not just using the name you would like to use — then you may wish to contact them directly or submit a report to Facebook. However, even if Facebook decides to remove the offender’s account, they will usually not allow that name to be re-used.
